Research & Insights
Through personal experience, user observation, and market research, I identified key gaps in how audiobook listeners engage with and retain content.
Passive Listening, Low Retention
Users often listen while driving, walking, or multitasking, making it easy for key insights to be forgotten.
No Tools Built for Audiobooks
Most note-taking systems are designed for reading, not listening, creating friction when trying to capture ideas in real time.
Friction in Capturing Thoughts
Pausing, switching apps, or typing notes disrupts the listening experience, discouraging consistent note-taking.
Desire for Reflection
Users want a way to process and apply what they learn—not just log what they listened to.
The Strategy
The strategy focused on bridging the gap between passive listening and active learning by creating a system that makes capturing and reflecting on audiobook insights simple, flexible, and habit-driven. This included reducing friction in note-taking, encouraging intentional reflection, and designing a workflow that fits seamlessly into users’ existing listening habits.
The Solution
The final product is a customizable digital journal built in Notion that transforms audiobook listening into an active, reflective experience. It provides a structured yet flexible system for capturing insights, organizing content, and revisiting key ideas over time.

Frictionless Capture System
Users can quickly log thoughts and key takeaways without interrupting their listening flow.

Guided Reflection Prompts
Built-in prompts encourage deeper thinking, helping users process and apply what they learn.

Centralized Library & Tracking
Users can track current, completed, and upcoming audiobooks in one organized space.

Flexible & Customizable Workflow
The system adapts to different listening styles, genres, and personal preferences.

Design for Passive Consumption
The system was built to support users who are often multitasking, minimizing disruption during listening.
Reduce Friction in Capture
Quick-entry note structures were prioritized to make capturing ideas fast and effortless.
Encourage Reflection Over Logging
The focus was on helping users think about content, not just record it.
Maintain Flexibility Across Users
The structure allows customization so users can tailor it to their own habits and preferences.
Key Design Decisions
Product Impact
Validated User Need
The product addresses a clear gap in how audiobook listeners capture and retain information.
Launched as a Digital Product
The journal was successfully packaged and distributed via Gumroad, turning the concept into a real, usable product.
Multi-Platform Promotion Strategy

Learning & Future Steps
This project reinforced the value of designing from personal experience while validating ideas through real user needs. I gained experience in product thinking beyond UI, considering not just usability, but also distribution, positioning, and user adoption. Moving forward, I would gather user feedback post-launch, iterate on the system based on real usage patterns, and explore additional features such as mobile-friendly capture methods and integrations to further reduce friction.
