The Problem
Families in the Naugatuck community lacked a centralized, accessible way to find early childhood resources, support services, and local programs for children ages 0–5. Information was fragmented across different organizations, making it difficult for parents to know where to go, who to trust, and how to get connected. Without a unified digital hub, opportunities for community engagement, resource awareness, and early support were being missed—especially for families who need clear, approachable, and easy-to-navigate information.

Research & Insights
Research into early childhood support systems and community needs revealed key challenges families face when trying to access local resources. The focus was on understanding how parents discover services, what builds trust, and how to create a more connected and accessible experience.
Information is Fragmented
Families often rely on multiple sources to find child care, events, and support services, making it difficult to know where to start.
Trust is Essential
Parents look for credible, community-backed resources and are more likely to engage when information feels reliable and locally relevant.
Accessibility Drives Engagement
Clear navigation, simple language, and multilingual support are critical for making resources usable by a diverse community.
Community Connection Matters
Families value opportunities to engage locally, whether through events, programs, or trusted community leaders like Parent Ambassadors.

The Strategy
The strategy focused on creating a centralized, easy-to-navigate hub that connects families with local resources, programs, and support. This included organizing information into clear categories and prioritizing key pathways like child care, community resources, and events. The design emphasized warmth, trust, and accessibility through approachable visuals, clear language, and multilingual support, encouraging both discovery and community engagement.
The Final Solution
The final website delivers a welcoming, easy-to-navigate experience that connects families with essential early childhood resources, local programs, and community support. By centralizing information and simplifying access, the site helps parents quickly find what they need while encouraging ongoing engagement within the Naugatuck community.

Learning & Future Steps
This project reinforced the importance of designing for accessibility, clarity, and trust when serving a diverse community audience. Creating a centralized resource hub required thoughtful organization of information and a strong focus on user needs, ensuring families could easily find support without feeling overwhelmed. It also highlighted how design can play a meaningful role in strengthening community connection, not just usability.
Moving forward, I would focus on gathering feedback from families and community partners to better understand how the site is being used and where improvements can be made. I would also explore expanding features such as enhanced search, more personalized resource pathways, and continued optimization of multilingual support to further improve accessibility and engagement.
